Beef Chowmein
*adapted from the chicken chowmein recipe by @recipetin
Ingredients
500g tenderised steak strips
1 packet coleslaw (green cabbage with carrot)
1 1/2 tbsp oil
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 pack Chinese noodles or thin linguine, boiled
1 cup Broccoli, sliced
1 cup Cauliflower, sliced
3 spring onions, cut into 5cm pieces
CHOW MEIN SAUCE:
4 tsp cornflour / cornstarch
4 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp oyster sauce
3 tsp sugar
1 tsp sesame oil
Pinch White pepper
Stock:
1 sachet beef stock dissolved into 1/2 cup water. (Or 1 stock cube)
Method:
Marinade: Chow Mein Sauce
Mix together the cornflour and soy sauce, then mix in the remaining ingredients.
Add half of the above sauce to your steak. Leave to marinate for a minimum of 10 minutes.
Prepare your noodles according to package instructions
Heat oil in a wok or large frypan over high heat. Add garlic and stir fry for 10 seconds – don’t let it burn!
Add steak and stir fry until the surface gets a tinge of browning but inside is still raw – about 2 minutes.
Add the coleslaw mix, chopped broccoli, and chopped cauliflower. Stir fry for 1 1/2 minutes until the cabbage is mostly wilted.
Add the noodles, marinade, and stock water. Stir fry for 1 minute, tossing constantly.
Add a little more water if it seems a bit dry.
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped spring onion.
Serve immediately.
Enjoy!
